80%

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that chemotherapy can cure or prolong the lives of up to 80% of patients with some types of cancer.

Adverse effects

Many newer drugs and regimens are well tolerated and do not cause side effects in everyone who receives chemotherapy. However, everyone is unique and will react differently to the treatment.

The majority of side effects are transient and will go away once the treatment is completed. Although the side effects can be unpleasant, we now have good drugs to control many of them, and we must balance the potential side effects of the treatment with the potential benefits.

Many chemotherapy drugs have a number of side effects, which are discussed further below.

Preparing for chemotherapy

Preparing for chemotherapy

Being prepared for what’s to come is an important part of the treatment journey. Our team will provide you with detailed instructions on how to prepare for your chemotherapy sessions, including what to expect during treatment and how to manage side effects. We also offer a range of support services to help you cope with the emotional and physical challenges of cancer treatment.

Emotional and Mental needs

Emotional and Mental needs

We place equal value on your physical and mental wellness. Everybody requires assistance of some way during trying times. Being diagnosed with cancer and going through treatment might be one of the most difficult experiences you will ever have. Some patients experience stress, anxiety, depression, and at times an inability to cope during chemotherapy. If you are feeling that way, please tell someone. After that, we can provide the proper assistance and guidance, and we might even be able to direct you to a team member who has received specialised training.

At MGM Healthcare, we have a team that is eager to assist you. If you are interested, inform your health care provider, and they will make the necessary referrals.

Many people find that their lack of interest in sex while undergoing chemotherapy is caused by general anxiety and a lack of energy, and that it will return to normal once the treatment is completed and you have recovered.

After-treatment care

What happens once my treatment is finished?

The effects of the chemotherapy will gradually wear off, and you will begin to feel normal again. It will take a few weeks for most people, so you must continue to look after yourself during this time, eating well and resting if you are tired.

Following up

After the end of your chemotherapy, you will be scheduled for a follow-up appointment with your doctor. This visit will allow you to discuss any issues or concerns that have arisen, as well as see how the side effects are progressing.

Follow-up visits to the doctor will continue, but they will become less frequent over time.
